"The girl you just called fat? She has been starving herself and has lost over 30lbs. The boy you just called stupid? He has a learning disability & studies over four hours a night. The girl you just called ugly? She spends hours putting makeup on hoping people will like her. The boy you just tripped? He is abused enough at home. There's a lot more to people than you think."
I found this on facebook. I really hope it makes people stop and think. As a educator who spends a great deal of time with children and young adults, I can tell you that there is almost always more to people than they show at school. Most children have hidden lives that make them easy targets for bullies but that make me want to take them home with me and keep them safe. Bullying causes self-hate, depression, and even suicide. Please keep your hurtful looks, words, and actions to yourself. Everyone deserves to feel safe at school.
Everyone should check out this awesome project! **Beware, it contains some language not suitable for the workplace!** (two links below!) A dedicated group of people transformed the side of an ugly building into a piece of art work that boasts community building, goal setting, and motivation. I love it! Its so neat to see all of the different aspirations collected by the community members.
Some of my favorites (all for different reasons!): "Before I die I want to...love wrecklessly...again" "Before I die I want to...be a youtube sensation" "Before I die I want to...paint a picture that makes people cry" "Before I die I want to...see my students become teachers" "Before I die I want to...feel like the only girl in the room" "Before I die I want to...see world peace"
My thoughts and prayers are certainly with Japan and Russia right now. The quake is currently thought to be the 5th largest earthquake EVER recorded. The tsunami footage is really heartbreaking. I pray to God that the damage stops here and does not transfer to other parts of the world! It definitely makes me feel awful for complaining about the rain we got here in Maine today :(
I have been so busy student teaching, cheering, and working this semester that I have barely had enough time to sleep let alone blog. I'm getting more used to my new schedule so I think I will be able to fit more blogging into my schedule now. I'm going to start back up with this fun blogger ABC survey that I found on another blog (in case you have forgotten who I am!)
Bed size: Full for now. We have a super small bedroom in this apartment.

Dogs: None yet but definitely some in the future!
Essential start of your day: caffeine! Coffee or tea are necessary :)
Fave color: Pink
Gold or silver: Definitely silver!

Kids: Some day :)
Mom’s name: Lisa

Right or left handed: Right.

X-rays you have had done: Teeth, ankle, and...umm I'm not sure what else.
Yummy food you make: Josh and I make a pretty delicious chili!
Zoo Animal, favorite: Penguins or giraffes. Maybe elephants? They are all so cute!
